To Do or Not To Do

So...It's been a while. Oops!

It was on my To Do list {which in my opinion should be called never-ending, ever-expanding, get-a-little-done-each-day lists}. There have been so many moments in the past 6 months where I thought "I need to tell that story to the {pocket}CHANGE community." I even wrote the stories in my head, late at night, while trying to get to sleep...

Things like our official opening day or our grand opening, stories of meeting new artisans, crafters, & members of the community, and of course the highs, lows & in-betweens of learning new skills related to the business world rattled through my head and took shape, but by morning I had 'things to do' first.

But I'm here now...

My most recent struggle with To Do {or not to do -> sorry Shakespeare} was in deciding how to decorate my July windows. Canada Day was looming and I usually look forward to celebrating it with friends and family. However, this year was different. As I read more about #reconciliation and #resistance150 movements within and around First Nations, Metis, & Inuit communities the more I knew I wanted to acknowledge the issue.

The question was HOW.

How can I bring attention and awareness to something I admittedly don't know a lot about? How do I do this with the sensitivity and respect it deserves? How do I balance my perspective with one I am learning more about?

After a lot of contemplation, I came up with this:

I chose to celebrate the positive, while acknowledging there is a lot that needs to change. {I don't have plan right now, but I know I want to be part of that change.}

Perhaps my windows {and this post} will start meaningful dialogue or at least cause people to reflect on what it means to live where we do.

I know I am still trying to figure it out.
It's on my daily 'To Do' list.
